Purpendicular
Purpendicular is Deep Purple's fifteenth studio album, released in February 1996 through BMG. It marks a turning point for the band, as the first record to feature guitarist Steve Morse, who came from Dixie Dregs and stepped into the role previously held by Ritchie Blackmore.
Coming after The Battle Rages On… in 1993, it finds the band working in their familiar hard rock territory with a new player at the centre of the sound. For anyone curious how Deep Purple carried on after Blackmore's departure, this is the place to start. It entered the UK charts in mid-February 1996 and peaked at No. 58, and it opens the chapter that continued with Abandon in 1998.
