Abandon
Abandon is Deep Purple's 16th studio album, issued through CMC International Records in May 1998. It was the second record with guitarist Steve Morse in the line-up, following Purpendicular, and it turned out to be the last to feature founding member Jon Lord before he left the band in 2002. The cover art was designed by the artist Ioannis Nikolaos Vasilopoulos.
It sits in the stretch of Deep Purple's story where the band was settling into its Morse-era identity, working in a hard rock vein. The record led to a 1998–1999 world tour that took the band to Australia for the first time in 15 years. That visit produced the double live album and DVD Total Abandon: Australia '99, recorded in Melbourne on 20 April 1999. For anyone tracing Lord's final years with the group, this is a useful place to listen.
