Album
Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)
Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) is Slipknot's third studio album, released on 25 May 2004 through Roadrunner Records. It followed the tour for Iowa, after which the band's future was in question and members spread into side projects including Murderdolls, To My Surprise and a reformed Stone Sour. Work began in 2003 at The Mansion, a slow start with Corey Taylor drinking heavily, though the band still wrote far more material than the record needed.
It stands as their only album produced by Rick Rubin, and it opens up their sound with more traditional, melodic song structures, guitar solos and acoustic instruments. It went Platinum in the United States, and "Before I Forget" won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The video for "Duality" is rated by Roadrunner as the best in its history. Often seen as a closing chapter for the nu metal era, it's well worth revisiting.
