Chaos A.D.
Chaos A.D. is the fifth studio album by Brazilian band Sepultura, released through Roadrunner Records in September 1993. It followed Arise (1991) and pushed that record's experiments further, moving away from the group's earlier thrash metal towards a heavier, groove-driven sound. It also contains the band's first fully acoustic song, a notable shift for a group that had built its name on speed and aggression.
The record marks a few firsts. Paulo Jr. appears on bass as a full member for the first time, having played live with the band since 1984. In North America it was handled by Epic Records, the only Sepultura album to go that route. It reached number 32 on the Billboard 200, the band's best chart showing up to then and Roadrunner's first top 40 entry. Critics praised it on release, and it is still widely rated among the band's finest work.
