Album
Siamese Dream
Siamese Dream is the second album by the Smashing Pumpkins, the American alternative rock band fronted by Billy Corgan. It arrived on Virgin in July 1993, following their debut Gish (1991), and was produced by Corgan with Butch Vig. The sessions were fraught with difficulties and tensions, yet the record entered the Billboard 200 at number ten.
It is the album that took the band into the mainstream. Its sound draws on grunge, shoegaze and wider alternative rock, and critics noted how distinct its musical influences and lyrics felt among its contemporaries. Four singles supported it: "Cherub Rock", "Today", "Disarm" and "Rocket". A fifth, "Mayonaise", followed in 2023 for the 30th anniversary. It went on to be certified 7× Platinum in the US, and many rank it among the finest albums of the decade.
