Mer de Noms is the debut album by A Perfect Circle, the American rock supergroup, released on 23 May 2000 through Virgin. The title is French for "Sea of Names". It sits at the start of a run of studio albums that continues with Thirteenth Step in 2003, eMOTIVe in 2004 and Eat the Elephant in 2018.
The record arrived with real momentum. It entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4, the highest debut ever for a rock band's first album, selling over 188,000 copies in its first week, and it went platinum with the RIAA later that year. Three singles, "Judith", "3 Libras" and "The Hollow", all reached the top 20 on both the Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock charts. Its mix of alternative rock, alternative metal and art rock makes it a rewarding listen for anyone who likes their heavy music moody and atmospheric.
