Warning:
Warning: is Green Day's sixth studio album, released on 3 October 2000 through Reprise Records. It follows nimrod. (1997) and pushes further away from the band's familiar punk sound, bringing in acoustic guitars and leaning on pop and folk styles. Rob Cavallo, who had produced their records since Kerplunk! (1991), stepped back from the main production role here, though he stayed involved and was credited as executive producer.
The songs are generally more hopeful and uplifting than anything on the band's earlier records, and Billie Joe Armstrong's songwriting drew most of the praise from critics. Opinion on the stylistic shift was mixed, but reviews were mostly positive. The album reached number four on the US Billboard 200 and went gold, though sales were lower than for their previous major-label releases, and a leak on Napster three weeks before release may have played a part. It makes a fascinating bridge to American Idiot, with a band testing how far it could stretch.
