Album
Primitive
Primitive is the second studio album from Soulfly, the American heavy metal band, following their self-titled debut of 1998. It came out in September 2000 on Roadrunner Records and sits in the early part of a long discography that now runs to well over a dozen studio records. Its sound is rooted in heavy metal and nu metal, with rock leanings too.
It arrived at a time when nu metal was at its commercial peak, and it found a sizeable audience, selling over 226,000 copies in the United States by 2002. The track "Jumpdafuckup" has lasted better than most of its era's output: in 2019 Alternative Press writer Joe Smith-Engelhardt named it among the nu-metal staples that still hold up today. If you want to hear where Soulfly stood just after their debut, this is a good place to start.
