Iowa
Iowa is the second studio album by Slipknot, the masked nine-piece from Iowa itself, and it arrived on 28 August 2001 through Roadrunner Records. Named after the band's home state, which members have called a huge source of inspiration, it followed their 1999 debut with a great deal of expectation hanging over it. The band produced it with Ross Robinson, and it was the first full record to feature guitarist Jim Root, who had appeared on just one song before. Relations within the group suffered during the making of it, and the period was later described as the darkest of their career.
That tension is audible. Iowa is more technical than the debut and is regarded as the band's heaviest, bleakest work. It holds "Disasterpiece", "The Heretic Anthem", "People = Shit" and the Grammy-nominated "Left Behind" and "My Plague". It went platinum in the UK, US and Canada, and a tenth anniversary edition followed in 2011.
