Down to Earth
Down to Earth is Ozzy Osbourne's eighth studio album, released on 16 October 2001 on Epic. It followed 1995's Ozzmosis, and came about because the record company wanted a new Ozzy record while he was happily keeping Ozzfest going and would have preferred to carry on touring. It reached number four on the US Billboard 200 and number 19 in the UK, and its two singles both made the US mainstream rock top ten and reached number 18 in the UK.
The line-up is worth knowing. Robert Trujillo, who left for Metallica in 2003, plays bass, and Mike Bordin, formerly of Faith No More, makes his first appearance on an Osbourne record after years on the road with him. Zakk Wylde plays guitar but, unusually, has no songwriting credits. Joe Holmes helped write, alongside outside collaborators such as producer Tim Palmer and Marti Frederiksen, and Ozzy credited Palmer's patience as essential to the album existing at all.
