Hold Me Up
Hold Me Up is the third studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls, released on 16 October 1990 through Metal Blade Records. It followed their self-titled debut in 1987 and Jed in 1989, and it sits firmly in the band's early, punkier years, with pop punk, power pop and alternative rock all in the mix.
The record is where John Rzeznik begins to step forward as the group's main lead vocalist, a change that shaped everything the band did afterwards. It also gave them their first single, "There You Are", which became their first music video. Anyone who knows the Goo Goo Dolls mainly from their later, polished hits will find this a rawer starting point. Loudwire counted it among Metal Blade's best albums in 2017, a nod to how well it holds up on a label better known for heavier acts.
