Album
Eaten Back to Life
Eaten Back to Life is the debut album from American death metal band Cannibal Corpse, released on 17 August 1990 through Metal Blade Records. It was recorded at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida, with Scott Burns producing, and it includes five songs re-recorded from the band's 1989 demo. Vince Locke, a comic book artist, painted the cover, which shows a zombie mutilating and feeding on itself.
This is the band at their rawest. The sound leans on thrash metal, with echoes of Exodus, Sepultura and Dark Angel, and it's a good way to hear how far their later records moved from it. Primitive as it is, the album is now seen as an essential step in the development of death metal. "A Skull Full of Maggots", the penultimate track, remains a fan favourite and a regular in their live set.
