Album
Show No Mercy
Show No Mercy is Slayer's debut studio album, released on 3 December 1983 on Metal Blade Records. The label's Brian Slagel signed the band after seeing them play an Iron Maiden cover. The band paid for the recording themselves, pooling the savings of vocalist Tom Araya, then working as a respiratory therapist, with money Kerry King borrowed from his father.
It is the starting point for everything that followed, from Hell Awaits to Reign in Blood. The production was criticised as rough, yet the record became Metal Blade's best-selling release. "The Antichrist", "Die by the Sword" and "Black Magic" stayed in the live set for years. Friends and family came along on the touring that followed, helping out with lighting and sound backstage.
