Christ Illusion
Christ Illusion is Slayer's tenth studio album, released in August 2006 on American Recordings. It marked the return of drummer Dave Lombardo, who had last played on Seasons in the Abyss in 1990, so the original four-piece were back together on record for the first time in almost sixteen years. It also sits as the follow-up to God Hates Us All, and comes before World Painted Blood.
The record was never short of controversy. Larry Carroll's painting of a mutilated Christ led to an alternative cover for nervous retailers, plus a censored version without the artwork. "Jihad" tells the events of 11 September 2001 from a terrorist's point of view, and after protests EMI India recalled and destroyed its stock. Critics were generally warm, and it entered the US Billboard 200 at number 5. "Eyes of the Insane" and "Final Six" both won Grammy Awards.
