World Painted Blood
World Painted Blood is Slayer's eleventh studio album, released on 3 November 2009 through American Recordings. Greg Fidelman produced it, with Rick Rubin as executive producer, and it follows 2006's Christ Illusion. Its eleven tracks deal with death and destruction, war, serial killers and the Apocalypse, and the sleeve came in four versions, each showing a quarter of a map of the earth painted red.
It matters in the band's story for several reasons. It is the last Slayer album to feature the original line-up, with Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo both still on board, and the final one made with Rubin, who had been involved since Reign in Blood. "Hate Worldwide" and the title track were each nominated for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance, and the record reached number twelve on the Billboard 200. Critics were generally warm, with The A.V. Club praising its variety.
