Album
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is Alanis Morissette's fourth studio album, released by Maverick on 3 November 1998. It followed Jagged Little Pill and grew out of a trip to India in late 1996 and early 1997. That journey shaped the sleeve, which carries phrases from the eight precepts, a basic Buddhist code of ethics. The title comes from a lyric in "So Pure".
Musically, it is a more adventurous record than its predecessor. Morissette tried stream-of-consciousness writing and often drifted away from standard verse-and-chorus shapes, bringing in touches of trip hop and chamber rock while keeping her distinctive voice and searching, personal lyrics. It topped the US Billboard 200, set a first-week sales record for a female artist at the time, and also went to number one in Canada, New Zealand, Germany and Norway. "Thank U" reached the US top 20 and, with "So Pure", earned a Grammy nomination. The album won the 2000 Juno Award for Album of the Year.
