Alanis
Alanis is the debut studio album by Alanis Morissette, released in April 1991 on MCA Records. It came out only in Canada, and it went on to be certified platinum there. Its sound sits in the pop and dance end of the spectrum, drawing on dance-pop, freestyle, new jack swing and electronic textures, with rock in the mix too.
It's a fascinating place to start if you only know the artist from Jagged Little Pill in 1995. Morissette made the record with Leslie Howe, who also produced her follow-up, Now Is the Time, in 1992. Together the two albums form the opening chapter of her career, well before the big shift in direction. Hear it as a snapshot of where she began.
