Enema of the State
Enema of the State is the third studio album by Blink-182, released on 1 June 1999 on MCA Records. It followed Dude Ranch (1997), which gave the Southern California trio the modern rock hit "Dammit", and it brought two important newcomers: producer Jerry Finn, who became a key creative partner, and drummer Travis Barker, whose speed and precision lifted the band's playing.
Recorded over three months in San Diego and Los Angeles, it swapped the rawness of their early records for tight arrangements, bright harmonies and a glossy pop sheen. Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus wrote about teenage breakups, suburban parties and growing up, with a detour into UFO conspiracy theories. "What's My Age Again?", "All the Small Things" and "Adam's Song" became MTV staples, and the album has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. Some critics missed the older grit, but it remains a defining pop-punk record.
