The Gathering
The Gathering is the eighth studio album by American thrash metal band Testament, released on 8 June 1999. It arrived after Demonic, which had pushed the band towards death metal, and it keeps some of that heaviness while bringing back the thrash attack they had built their name on. That blend has led many to see it as a return to form.
It was also a record of change. Steve Di Giorgio joined on bass and Dave Lombardo took over on drums, and this would be Lombardo's only album with the band, as he left not long after its release. Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson co-produced, and along with Lombardo and longtime collaborator Del James they share the writing credits. Worth hearing for that one-off line-up alone.
