The Battle of Los Angeles
The Battle of Los Angeles is the third studio album by Rage Against the Machine, released in November 1999 on Epic. It followed their self-titled debut in 1992 and Evil Empire in 1996, and it turned out to be the last full-length record of original material they made before splitting in 2000. The covers collection Renegades came out after the breakup.
The record mixes alternative metal with funk-leaning rock, and it drew serious attention at the time. Time and Rolling Stone both named it the best album of 1999. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards, while "Guerrilla Radio" won Best Hard Rock Performance. The album went on to be certified double platinum in the United States. If you want to hear the band at the close of their original run, with the lead single as a natural place to start, this is the one.
