Album
Definitely Maybe
Definitely Maybe is the debut album from Oasis, released on 29 August 1994 through Creation Records. It arrived on the back of the singles "Supersonic", "Shakermaker" and "Live Forever", and it went straight to number one in the UK, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in British music history at that point. It is also the only Oasis record with all five original members playing throughout, before drummer Tony McCarroll left in April 1995.
Getting it right was a struggle. Sessions in Monnow Valley with Dave Batchelor and then at Sawmills in Cornwall fell short, until manager Marcus Russell called in Owen Morris to mix it. Liam Gallagher re-recorded some vocals in London. What emerged was a brash, optimistic record that pushed back against grunge's gloom and became a cornerstone of Britpop. NME readers voted it the greatest album ever in 2006.
