Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991, built around brothers Liam Gallagher on vocals and Noel Gallagher on lead guitar. Noel became the band's leader and wrote the songs for their first four albums. Their sound sat at the heart of Britpop, drawing on alternative rock with a streak of psychedelia. They signed to Creation Records in 1993.

Definitely Maybe (1994) became the fastest-selling debut in British history at the time. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? followed in 1995, spending ten weeks at number one and becoming the UK's best-selling album of the 1990s. Be Here Now (1997) sold 696,000 copies in its first week, a UK chart record. After splitting in 2009, the band reformed in 2024 and toured in 2025.
