Standing on the Shoulder of Giants
Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is the fourth studio album by Oasis, released in the UK and Europe on 28 February 2000. It arrived after a testing year: Alan McGee had closed Creation Records, founding members Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs and Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan had left, and producer Owen Morris was replaced by Mark "Spike" Stent. The record came out on the band's new label, Big Brother Recordings.
The sound moves away from Britpop towards psychedelia, with drum loops, samples, electric sitar, Mellotron, synthesisers and backward guitars. "Go Let It Out" and "Who Feels Love?" show the shift, while "Gas Panic!" leans into trip hop. It is also the first Oasis album to include a song written by Liam Gallagher, "Little James". It sold over 310,000 copies in its first week in the UK and went double platinum there.
