Hybrid Theory
Hybrid Theory is Linkin Park's debut album, released on 24 October 2000 on Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded at NRG Recordings in North Hollywood and produced by Don Gilmore. The title nods to the band's earlier name, and to the idea of blending different styles, which is exactly what the record does across its mix of rock, rap and metal.
The songs draw on Chester Bennington's teenage years, including drug abuse and his parents' constant fighting and eventual divorce. Four singles, "One Step Closer", "In the End", "Crawling" and "Papercut", turned the band into a mainstream name, with "In the End" the biggest of them. "Crawling" won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album reached number two on the US Billboard 200 and has sold 32 million copies worldwide, the best-selling debut since Appetite for Destruction. Meteora followed in 2003.
