Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years is a greatest hits compilation from Megadeth, released in October 2000 on Capitol Records. It gathers highlights from the band's thrash and speed metal catalogue, with two songs written for the occasion: "Kill the King" and "Dread and the Fugitive Mind".

Those two new tracks feature the line-up of Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Jimmy DeGrasso and Al Pitrelli. They arrived between Risk in 1999 and The World Needs a Hero in 2001, so the collection catches the band at a turning point. There is also a hidden track, "Capitol Punishment", a medley stitched together from numerous earlier Megadeth songs. It makes a neat bonus for anyone who already knows the records, and the set as a whole suits listeners wanting a single overview of the band's years on Capitol.
