The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!
The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! is Megadeth's sixteenth studio album, released on 2 September 2022. It arrived six years after Dystopia, the longest wait between records in the band's career. Work began in 2019, then stalled when Dave Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer, and the pandemic added further delays. Mustaine co-produced with Chris Rakestraw.
It is a record of change. Dirk Verbeuren debuts on drums, and it is guitarist Kiko Loureiro's final album with the band. David Ellefson's bass parts were removed after his dismissal and re-recorded by Steve Di Giorgio. Critics felt it carried on the path set by Dystopia. It reached No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 and the UK chart, and "We'll Be Back" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
