Rude Awakening
Rude Awakening is Megadeth's first live album, released on 19 March 2002 by Sanctuary Records on both CD and DVD. It was meant to be recorded in Argentina, but the September 2001 attacks moved the plans to the United States. The material comes from two near-identical nights in November 2001, at the Rialto Theater in Tucson and the Web Theater in Phoenix. Playing twice gave the band cleaner audio and video and more editing options. Dave Mustaine dedicates "A Tout le Monde" to the victims of the attacks.
It also marks a turning point. This was the last release before the band split in 2002, and the final show for Al Pitrelli and Jimmy DeGrasso. Dave Ellefson had also left, unhappy with his share of the earnings, though he returned in 2010. Storm Thorgerson, known for his Pink Floyd work, co-designed the sleeve, and the DVD went gold in the US and Canada.
