Terra Incognita is the debut studio album from French band Gojira, released on 19 March 2001 through Gabriel Editions. Stephan Kraemer recorded and mixed it. The band mix death metal, groove metal and progressive metal with an experimental streak, and this first record sets out that blend before the albums that followed: The Link, From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh.

The title is Latin for "unknown land". According to the album inlay, it points to the space inside every person where, in Hindu legend, Brahma hid the divinity he had taken from humanity as punishment for its abuse. It's a fitting idea for a band so drawn to big themes. The record spent long stretches out of print, and copies fetched high prices on auction sites. A 2009 digipack added three live tracks recorded in Antwerp in 2006, and another reissue followed on 10 October 2016, which makes it far easier to hear the starting point of Gojira's story.
