Magma

Magma is the sixth studio album from French band Gojira, released on 17 June 2016 through Roadrunner Records. It was recorded at the band's own studio in New York City, with Joe Duplantier producing, Johann Meyer mixing and Ted Jensen mastering. It sits between L'Enfant sauvage and Fortitude, and it marks a clear change of direction: the sound is more atmospheric and more accessible than before, with clean vocals given far greater prominence.

The record carries real personal weight. The Duplantier brothers' mother, Patricia, died in 2015 while it was being made, and the album is dedicated to her. It found a wider audience too, entering the Billboard 200 at number 24 and selling 400,000 copies worldwide in its first eight months. It earned Grammy nominations at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, for Best Rock Album and, for "Silvera", Best Metal Performance. A good place to start if you want Gojira at their most open.
