The Getaway
The Getaway is the eleventh studio album by Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on 17 June 2016 through Warner Bros. Records. It broke a long-standing habit: after Mother's Milk in 1989, every record had been produced by Rick Rubin, but here the job went to Danger Mouse. It was also the second and last album with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, as Rubin and John Frusciante would both be back three years later.
Commercially it did well, entering at number one in ten countries and reaching number two in the US, UK and Canada. Reviews were generally positive. The band's funk rock and alternative rock sound meets a more pop-leaning approach here. "Dark Necessities" led the way as the first single, followed by "Go Robot", "Sick Love" and "Goodbye Angels". The title track also got UK radio play without ever being an official single. It's a fascinating record to hear for the change of producer alone.
