Weezer's self-titled tenth album, better known as the White Album, arrived on 1 April 2016 through Atlantic, the first release on Crush Music. It was also the first of their records produced by Jake Sinclair. It followed Everything Will Be Alright in the End, and kept up that album's run of good reviews while climbing higher commercially, reaching number four on the US Billboard 200 with 49,000 copies sold in its first week.

Musically, it looks back to the band's first two records, Weezer (1994) and Pinkerton (1996), with a nod to the Beach Boys along the way. Rivers Cuomo tried new ways of writing, including a cut-up technique and a spreadsheet of potential lyrics sorted by syllable count and word stress. The songs deal with gender dynamics, modern dating and religious imagery. "Thank God for Girls", "Do You Wanna Get High?" and "King of the World" were the singles, and the album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
