The Lion and the Witch

The Lion and the Witch is a live EP recorded in Japan in spring 2002, while Weezer were promoting their album Maladroit. Geffen issued it on 24 September 2002, exactly six years after Pinkerton, as a limited run of 25,000 copies sold only through independent music stores.

Getting it out was not smooth. The band wanted eight songs and distinctive packaging that avoided crystal cases. Geffen balked at the cost and cut the disc to six songs so as not to upset other retailers, though the packaging survived. The disc opens with a hidden instrumental, "Polynesia". A remastered vinyl reissue followed in 2015, limited to 3,000 copies, so it remains a collectable for fans of this stretch of the band's career.
