Rise of the Tyrant is Arch Enemy's seventh studio album, arriving in 2007 on Century Media. It follows Doomsday Machine from 2005 and comes before The Root of All Evil in 2009, so it sits right in the middle of the Swedish band's long run of records. Fredrik Nordström produced it, and his name will be familiar to anyone who follows melodic death metal from that country.

For listeners who know the band from the 1990s and 2000s, this is a good place to hear Arch Enemy in their mature phase, when the melodic death metal sound had been honed over several albums. It is worth putting on if you want to follow the band's story from Black Earth through to the later releases such as Khaos Legions and War Eternal, and to hear how this chapter connects them.
