Underclass Hero
Underclass Hero is the fourth studio album by Canadian band Sum 41, released in July 2007. It arrived after guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh left the previous year, so this is the first of two records the group made as a three-piece. It was also their last for Island Records.
After the heavy metal leanings of Chuck in 2004, the band swung back towards the pop-punk sound that first made their name. That makes it a useful record to hear if you want to see how they balanced the two sides of their style. It topped the Canadian Albums Chart and reached number 7 on the US Billboard 200, their highest-charting album to that point. Critics were mixed: some admired the songwriting, lyrics and production, while others found it overlong, melodramatic and derivative.
