Sum 41 were a Canadian band who formed in Ajax, Ontario, in 1996 and played pop punk and skate punk with a rock edge. They signed an international deal with Island Records in 1999 and put out the EP Half Hour of Power in 2000. Deryck Whibley fronted the group, and the final line-up also included Dave Baksh, Jason McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo.

Their debut album, All Killer No Filler (2001), brought "Fat Lip", which topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Does This Look Infected? followed in 2002, then Chuck in 2004, which won a Juno for Rock Album of the Year, and Underclass Hero in 2007, their highest-charting record. They toured relentlessly, often playing over 100 shows a year. Heaven :x: Hell, their eighth album, arrived in 2024, and the band disbanded in March 2025 after a final world tour and induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
