Album
Minutes to Midnight
Minutes to Midnight is Linkin Park's third studio album, released on 14 May 2007 through Warner Bros. Records. It followed Meteora (2003) and was the first of their records made without Don Gilmore in the producer's chair. Mike Shinoda worked with Rick Rubin instead, and the pair steered the band away from the nu metal sound that had defined them. The title comes from the Doomsday Clock, and it was also their first full-length to carry a Parental Advisory label.
The road there was a long one. Work began in 2003, then paused while the band toured Meteora and Shinoda and Chester Bennington launched side projects, Fort Minor and Dead by Sunrise respectively. When the band returned, they took a new direction. The record went straight in at number one in the US and 15 other countries, including the UK and Canada, selling 623,000 copies in its first US week. Reviews were mixed, though Rolling Stone placed it twenty-fifth among 2007's best albums. It's well worth hearing as the moment Linkin Park began to change.
