EP
Collision Course
Collision Course is a mash-up EP pairing Linkin Park with Jay-Z, released on 30 November 2004 through Warner Bros. Records. It draws on the band's first two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, and on several of Jay-Z's records, including The Black Album, The Blueprint and the Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 instalments of his catalogue. The idea was sparked by Danger Mouse's The Grey Album, which blended Jay-Z with The Beatles.
It began as an MTV project, with only a song or two planned before it grew into a six-song set. Mike Shinoda and Jay-Z handled most of the production, and the recording was done over four days in July. The single "Numb/Encore" won the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and the EP went straight to number one on the US Billboard 200. Reviews were mixed, but it makes a lively bridge between rap and heavy guitars, and it sits neatly between Meteora and Minutes to Midnight in the band's story.
