eMOTIVe
eMOTIVe is the third studio album by American rock band A Perfect Circle, released on 2 November 2004. Rather than a set of new songs, it gathers mainly anti-war covers, and it arrived to coincide with the US presidential election. It follows Mer de noms and Thirteenth Step in the band's run of records.
The two singles show the range of the project. One was a cover of John Lennon's "Imagine"; the other, "Passive", was a previously unreleased song that began life in the defunct Tapeworm project. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, yet the band did not tour behind it and went on hiatus afterwards. That makes it a curious full stop on their early years, and the last studio release from them until Eat the Elephant in 2018. It is worth hearing as a snapshot of a band using other people's songs to say something pointed.
