The Link Alive

The Link Alive is Gojira's first live release, issued on 30 October 2004 through Gabriel Editions, the label the band had used for their debut album. It first appeared as a live DVD and was also put out as a live album, so it works as both a concert film and a record you can play without the screen.

It arrived straight after The Link, the French band's second studio album from 2003, and before From Mars to Sirius in 2005, the record that gave them their first chart entry. That makes it a snapshot of Gojira at an in-between stage, still building their following and playing death metal that came out of the Duplantier brothers' band, which began life as Godzilla in 1996. If you want to hear how the material from the early records sounded on stage before the bigger tours and chart success, this is the place to start.
