Fortitude

Fortitude is the seventh studio album from the French band Gojira, released on 30 April 2021 through Roadrunner Records. It followed Magma, and the band set out to make something more cohesive and brighter than that record. The sound stays progressive, but it makes room for guitar solos and classic rock touches, with a positive message running through the lyrics. Joe Duplantier produced it at the band's studio in New York City, Andy Wallace mixed it and Ted Jensen mastered it.

Songwriting began in early 2018 but was paused while the band toured, and the pandemic later interrupted the mixing and pushed the release back. It was worth the wait. The album topped the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart and the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, and it outsold Magma in its first week in the US. Metal Hammer and Revolver both named it their album of the year, and "Amazonia" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance.
