Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age is the band's debut album, released on 22 September 1998. It was written and recorded mostly in April that year by Josh Homme and his former Kyuss bandmate Alfredo Hernández. Hernández played drums, while Homme sang and played everything else, and he co-produced the record with Joe Barresi. Nick Oliveri, another Kyuss alumnus, joined on bass by the time it came out. Roadrunner Records handled the release internationally.
It's the starting point for everything Homme did next, and critics placed it in stoner rock. Reviewers heard echoes of Kyuss and other metal bands, but also krautrock acts such as Neu! and Can, which gives the record a more hypnotic, motoring feel than you might expect. Homme reissued it in 2011 with a remaster and three extra tracks, and the tour that followed helped shape how the band approached ...Like Clockwork in 2013.
