Kyuss / Queens of the Stone Age
Kyuss / Queens of the Stone Age is a split EP that puts two stoner rock bands side by side. It came out on Man's Ruin Records on 5 December 1997, and it captures a moment of handover: Kyuss contribute some of their final studio recordings, while Queens of the Stone Age make their first appearance.
The newcomers were the next project from Josh Homme, a former Kyuss guitarist. That makes this a handy bridge between the two bands, with one group winding down and the other just starting out. Queens of the Stone Age went on to release their self-titled debut album in 1998, so this EP is worth hearing as the earliest sign of where Homme was heading next.
