Blues Jam at Chess
Blues Jam at Chess captures Fleetwood Mac in their early days as a young British blues band, travelling to Chicago to play alongside the players who had shaped their sound. Recorded at Chess Records in early 1969, the session brought together Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie with Otis Spann, Willie Dixon, Shakey Horton, J.T. Brown, Buddy Guy, Honeyboy Edwards and S.P. Leary.
Blue Horizon released it on 5 December 1969, originally as two single LPs. It has since appeared under other titles, including Fleetwood Mac in Chicago on Sire in 1975. It sits well before the band's later pop-rock years, in the period when Green led the group. For anyone who wants to hear the blues roots behind the Fleetwood Mac story, it's a warm, relaxed meeting of two generations.
