The Original Fleetwood Mac
The Original Fleetwood Mac is a compilation of outtakes from the band's first line-up, recorded in 1967 and 1968 and released by CBS in 1971. It looks back to the Peter Green era, when Fleetwood Mac were a British blues rock band, rather than moving the story forward. It was reissued in 2000 with four extra tracks, and again in 2004 with seven different ones.
Some of the material comes from Decca's West Hampstead sessions in summer 1967, including "First Train Home", "Rambling Pony No. 2" and an instrumental titled "Fleetwood Mac", which Green named in tribute to Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. The rest was cut at CBS Studios on New Bond Street. That includes "Leaving Town Blues", taken from the fifth take on 11 December 1967. Rory Gallagher later covered it, and Green said it was the one cover of his work he truly enjoyed.
