The Vaudeville Years: 1968 to 1970
The Vaudeville Years: 1968 to 1970 is a compilation of outtakes and unreleased tracks from Fleetwood Mac's early line-up, none of which had been officially issued before. It came out on Receiver Records on 13 October 1998, on double vinyl and double CD, with a booklet of detailed notes and anecdotes by Martin Celmins. It was later joined by a companion volume, Show-Biz Blues: Fleetwood Mac 1968–70.
This is the blues rock band before the Rumours years, caught in the studio and on stage. The set draws on songs once meant for a second disc of Then Play On, including tracks recorded by Jeremy Spencer. You get a live "Oh Well" and alternative takes of songs by Peter Green, Spencer and Danny Kirwan, among them a different version of Green's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)". It is one for listeners who want to hear how those songs took shape.
