30: Very Best Of
30: Very Best Of is a Deep Purple compilation released in October 1998 by EMI, marking thirty years since the band formed. It came in three forms: a single CD, a double CD and a double LP pressed on purple vinyl, with the vinyl carrying the same running order as the single disc.
The single CD gathers the band's best-known songs from across their career, mostly in edited single versions. "Child in Time", for instance, is trimmed from the ten-plus minutes it runs on Deep Purple in Rock. The double CD Special Collectors Edition goes deeper and presents every song in full. It's a handy way into a catalogue that stretches from 1968 onwards, whether you want the radio-friendly cuts or the complete versions. The album reached the UK Top 40, went Gold there and peaked at number 41 in Australia.
