Mark I&II
Mark I & II is a double-LP compilation from Deep Purple, released in 1973 by EMI's German arm, Electrola. It gathers material first issued between 1968 and 1973 and appeared after Ian Gillan and Roger Glover left the band in June 1973. It was mainly a European release, though it also reached territories such as Australia and New Zealand.
The real draw is the singles. This was the first album to carry the A-sides "Emmaretta", "Black Night" and "Strange Kind of Woman", along with the B-side "When a Blind Man Cries" and the single edit of "Woman from Tokyo". "Highway Star" appears in its live Made in Japan version. For anyone wanting the band's early years and the Gillan-era hits in one place, it makes a handy snapshot.
