Stormbringer
Stormbringer is Deep Purple's ninth studio album, released in November 1974 on Purple Records. It's the second and last record by the Mk III line-up, with David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals, following Burn earlier the same year. The band had already shifted from the hard-edged approach of their early 1970s work, and the album's mix of hard rock, blues rock and funk rock shows that change clearly.
It also marks the final Deep Purple studio album with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore before he left in 1975. He returned for Perfect Strangers in 1984, so this record closes one chapter of his time in the band. If you're interested in how Purple sounded when Coverdale and Hughes shared the front line, it's a good place to hear them together.
