Now What?!
Now What?! is the 19th studio album by Deep Purple, released on 26 April 2013 and produced by Bob Ezrin. It arrived more than seven years after Rapture of the Deep, which came out in late 2005, so it marked a long-awaited return to the studio for the English hard rock band. Singles followed, including "Hell to Pay" with "All the Time in the World", and later "Vincent Price", which came with the previously unreleased "First Sign of Madness".
The record carries a good deal of feeling. Founding member Jon Lord died in July 2012, and "Uncommon Man" and "Above and Beyond" are dedicated to him. "Uncommon Man" takes partial inspiration from the classical piece "Fanfare for the Common Man" and opens up around a synthesiser fanfare theme written by Don Airey. For listeners who followed the band from the 1970s onwards, it is a fitting tribute and a worthwhile chapter in their story.
