Live at Montreux 1996
Live at Montreux 1996 is a concert release from Deep Purple, issued on CD and DVD by Eagle Records on 2 May 2006. It draws on performances captured at Montreux, with the main recording made in 1996 and further material from the same venue in 2000.
It arrived a decade after Purpendicular, the studio album the band put out in 1996, so it catches Deep Purple in the middle of their long career, well after the classic run from Shades of Deep Purple through to Machine Head and the 1984 reunion on Perfect Strangers. For fans of the band's hard rock sound on stage, the pairing of two different years at one celebrated festival town gives a useful look at how they played across those years.
